The Clone Wars Era Republic military has discovered a wormhole to Holy Terra during the Horus attack on the Imperial Palace. Due to Palpatines machinations the entire Republic Fleet plus Grand Army of the Republic is available to attack the Imperial Palace and it's defences in space. For the scenario, Horus is not present nor will his forces attack Terra. Holy Terra has all the defences it had during the Heresy, Primarchs, Emperor, Space Marine Legions, etc.
Likewise the Republic has all forces available to them at the height of the Clone Wars, full complement of Jedi Generals, AT Series Walkers, ARC-170's, Acclamators, Venator class Star Destroyers etc.
Can the Republic take it or will the Emperor emerge victorious?

Space Superiority is automatically the Republic's. This gives the Strategic Initiative to the Empire.
Now Clone Troopers do have range advanges and firepower advantages, it will be reduced greatly by the built up nature of Terra. This will ultimately become a long drawn out attrition battle.
I would expect something near the Israeli debacle in Lebanon during the summer of 06 for the Empire. I would expect an exchange rate of 1 to 1 in causilities except the Empire can sustain that, while Israel could not.

Assuming Palp needs an intact planet, I could expect the Imperium to hold the planet for a few years of major resistance followed by decades of Guerilla warfare.
Heck, I bet the Space Marines have far more effective Thermobaric Warheads than Hezbollah and can kill quite a few Clone Troopers by collasping the roofs on their heads. Likewise, Space Marines might find Thermo Detonators latching onto them (like covenant plasma grenades) a bit of a shock. This could turn into a brutal AT/Grenade fight rather quickly.
First scenario, defending a high rise against Clone Troopers. First starting from the ground floor, knock holes through the floor all the way to the top at semi random. Destroy the Stairs, remove the furniture, and mine the roof. Only have rope ingress and egress.
From the ground floor put men every two stories up, with the floor below them set with command detonated mines. and rig the supports with high explosives.
Let the Clone Troopers come and try to evict you and fight progressively upward and downward till you can no longer do so, then bring the building down.
Well air wise, the Imperium by taking advantage of the built up nature of Terra can provide limited air support before attrition took hold. Won't change the outcome.
