Should Han Have Shot First?

As those of us who grew up with the original version of A New Hope know, Han shot Greedo first in cold blood under the table. The Special editions changed that making Greedo shoot first and missing a shot that was less than five feet away! So what say you? Which do you prefer and why?

Personally I think Han shooting first solidifies his reputation as a badass and a hardnosed criminal. He knew Greedo was either going to take him to Jabba dead or alive and he did what he had to to getout of the situation with his skin. Exactly what we should expect from a smuggler.

I agree man. Likely New Republic propaganda. Han shooting first wouldn't look good to newer people who didn't fight in the Rebellion, but had this romantic ideal that the rebels were noble...

I've heard this theory put forth before, that the SW films were historical propoganda by the Rebels. Has there ever been any statements from Lucasfilms to confirm or deny this?

Nope, they are staying mum, though they switched it back in the DVDs from what I hear.

I bought the new DVDs on saturday and what they did was include two discs. Disc one has the special ediation, remastered and all. Disc two has the unaltered original theatrical release. I have one movie to watch tonight and then it's three nights of SW. I'lll post if they made any changes to the original releases that they haven't told us about.
